The next-gen update is free for everyone who already owns any version of the game. For those who don’t have the game yet, a dedicated next-gen version, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition, featuring all enhancements, free DLCs, and story expansions: Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine, will be available for purchase digitally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a physical release at a later date.

PlayStation®5

The steps to redeem your free upgrade will vary depending on which version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt you currently own on PS4.

Physical

To upgrade your existing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt game on a disc to the digital PlayStation®5 version, you will need a PlayStation®5 console with a disc drive. PlayStation®4 game discs cannot be used with the PlayStation®5
Digital Edition.

1. Sign in to your existing account on your PlayStation®5 console (or create an account).
2. Insert the eligible PlayStation®4 game disc.
3. Highlight The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the Game Hub screen.
4. Select the upgrade offer on the right side of the screen (Indicated by a white box that states "Free PS5 Upgrade") and accept the upgrade offer.
5. Select Download to add the game to your download queue
6. After the download is complete, you can play the PlayStation®5 digital game by inserting the PlayStation®4 game disc. You will need to keep the disc inserted each time to play the game.

Please note: If your physical game copy region is different from the region of your PlayStation account, you will not be eligible to upgrade. This needs to match in order to be presented with the upgrade offer.

Digital

To upgrade an eligible digital PS4 game you already own to the digital PS5 version:

1. Sign in to your existing account on your PS5 console.
2. Find The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in PlayStation Store, or by searching, and go to the game hub for the game.
3. Select the upgrade offer on the right side of the screen (Indicated by a white box that states "Free PS5 Upgrade") and accept the upgrade offer.
4. Select Download to add the game to your download queue
5. After the download is complete, you can play the PS5 game.

Xbox

Physical

Players with a physical Xbox One The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt disc will need to ensure that their new Xbox hardware has a disc drive (Xbox Series X) to be eligible for the upgrade.

If you own a physical Xbox One disc, you will simply need to insert the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt game disc into your new console. Xbox Smart Delivery will initiate a download for the version 4.0 update of the game available for your hardware. Any related downloads will be displayed under Manage -> Updates portion of the My Games and Apps menu. 

Digital

If you purchased the Xbox One version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt digitally and are now playing on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Smart Delivery you will list The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt upgraded version 4.0 for download under the Updates section under My Games and Apps -> Manage. You can reference the Queue button to see if the download is actively installing or was recently installed.
