Q: I’ve got The Ripper downloaded. How do I use it?
A: In order to use The Ripper, you must unlock the Garage through story progression. This means that you’ll have to get to the second objective in the “Into Madness” mission, which instructs you to “Drive to Jeet’s Stronghold.” This happens after Stank Gum’s Legion has destroyed Chumbucket’s Tabernackle very early in the game.
Q: How do you use the handbrake?
A: A 1% to 99% pull down on the Left Trigger/L2 is a normal brake. Pulling down Left Trigger/L2 100% engages the handbrake. So, in order to use the handbrake, pull down Left Trigger/L2 all the way. The default mapping for the handbrake on PC is Left Shift.
Q: How do I get in (and out) of first-person mode while driving?
A: In order to engage and disengage the first-person camera while driving, tap the D-Pad’s Down button twice. In order to start up First-Person Mode on PC, hit the 'V' button (default key map), or select it in the Main Menu.
Q: How do I use Capture Mode in Mad Max?
A: In order to start up Capture Mode, press down on both Thumbsticks at the same time, or select it in the Main Menu. In order to engage and disengage Capture Mode on PC, hit 'C' and 'X' at the same time, and then hit 'Q' to exit. (These are the default key maps on the PC.)
Q: I can’t finish the ‘Wasteland Classic’ mission. How come?
A: Make sure that all upgrades for ‘The Jack’ Archangel are GREEN, except for the Baby Bars armor upgrade. In order to access the Archangel menu, press ‘X’ on Xbox One, ‘Square’ on PS4, or ‘F’ on PC (default key map) in the Garage menu. (NOTE: In order to finish ‘The Jack’ you may have to install lower level parts than the ones you currently have installed. This includes getting rid of some upgrades entirely. These upgrades need to have a GREEN circle on top of the upgrade in the Garage menu.)
Once all upgrades for ‘The Jack’ are equipped, except the Baby Bars, exit the Garage menu, and the objective in the upper-right corner of the screen will update. (This objective will then take you to the required part for the Baby Bars upgrade.)

Q: Can you tell me more about the Autosave System?
A: The Autosave System provides 10 slots. The one that you choose is where your progress is automatically saved. Completing different activities throughout The Wasteland (e.g.: destroying Scarecrows, killing Snipers, picking up Scrap in a Loot Location, etc.) automatically causes the autosave slot to be updated with all of your progress. The next time the game is loaded, Max will appear near a location relevant to your active Story Mission, near an enemy camp that was being cleared, or the last visited Stronghold.
Q: Is there an alternate control scheme in Mad Max?
A: Yep! You can chance to an alternative gamepad control scheme by going to the Pause Menu, choosing Settings, selecting Button Maps, and then pressing ‘X’ on Xbox One or ‘Square’ on PS4. The alternative scheme changes the ‘Evade’ and ‘Fire Weapons’ actions, and it also moves the Handbrake to ‘B’ on Xbox One or ‘Circle’ on PS4.
Other changes include; Hand-to-hand ‘Evade’ moving to ‘B’ (XB1) or ‘Circle’ (PS4), ‘Fire Weapon’/‘Throw’ moving to ‘RB’ (XB1) or ‘R1’ (PS4). Also, ‘Fire Weapon’ inside of a vehicle will change to ‘RB’ (XB1) or ‘R1’ (PS4), and ‘Evade’ (when Sniping) changes to ‘B’ (XB1) or ‘Circle’ (PS4.)
